I lost my Honda Civic in a wreck about three weeks ago. Since that time, I've been contemplating a new car.  But I don't want another subcompact, I would like something that can hold more than a subcompact.  So I'll buy a SUV and here are my choices.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is a pioneering sports utility vehicles that ushered in the luxury SUV sector wayback in the 90s. Upon first offering, the Grand Cherokee embodied a much bigger and more sophisticated version of Jeep's smaller but popular Cherokee. The company's engineers created the Grand Cherokee to be maneuverable enough for city driving, has enough room for an entire family, stylish enough to be noticed and rugged enough to reach those remote camping areas. The Jeep Grand Cherokee definitely fulfilled all of these conditions and, we feel that Jeep continues on the rugged tradition with the Grand Cherokee.  Yet, you're not gonna use this SUV to get away from authorities, unless of course, the cops were driving diecast police cars 1:24.

The Range Rover Sport

Whether off-road driving or oft-traveled routes, the Range Rover Sport lives up to the heritage of the Land Rover brand impeccably. The rugged still polished Rover Sport provides unrivaled luxury and overall performance. The RRS has eight-way powered front seats. It can adequately seat up to five grown adults. Standard options on the Range Rover Sport Supercharged variant include things like a touch-screen DVD-based satellite navigation system, a front-and-rear park distance control, and an adaptive cruise-control system.

The Chevrolet Tahoe

The Chevy Tahoe is a full-sized utility vehicle from GM.  Chevrolet, way back in 1994, renamed its full size Blazer as the Tahoe and the bigger Blazer had been called as such since.  The Chevrolet Tahoe can seat up to 9 and is GM's flagship product for the full-size SUV niche. It provides a wider wheelbase that provides a sturdy look.  It truly is preferred in rural areas and even used as a police vehicle in some cities. The Chevrolet Tahoe is a reliable utlity and transport vehicle and hence has been successful in the US market.

I'm a big fan of Ryan Reynolds and he has a new movie coming out this year, the Green Lantern.  Another supehero movie like Batman with Christian Bale and Wolverine with Hugh Jackman.

Did a little research on the character.  Ryan will play Hal Jordan, the guy who became the Green Lantern. Hal Jordan was born to mom and dad Jessica and Martin Jordan in Coast City.  Prior to evolving into the Green Lantern, he was a professional pilot for the military.  He was also a boxer.  In the turning point of his life, Hal Jordan was to receive the Power Ring from a dying Abin Sur, a policeman from a different civilization and a member of the Green Lantern Corps (guardians of the universe).

Apparently, there existed other Green Lanterns in the DC universe, namely Guy Gardner, John Stewart, Kyle Rayner, and Alan Scott.  There had been times when the Green Lanterns had to work together.  But most of the time, their adventures were individuals.

Hal Jordan had the hots for Carol Ferris (Blake Lively), his boss at the Ferris Aircraft. Sadly, however, Carol was picked by the Zamarons to turn into the archvillain Star Sapphire, who menaced the world, especially men, repeatedly.  Thus, Carol's romantic relationship with the Green Lantern grew to become difficult. And then emergedthe number of creatures with cruel intentions towards whom Hal and his friends swore to look after.

Should be a fun movie to see.

I love vacations.  I try to go somewhere nice at least once a year.  The last few years it has been to the same place, Oahu.  Lucky for me and my siblings, our oldest sister lives there and she's more than happy to have us visiting.  She's mentioned a few times how it would be nice if one of us would move there to keep her and her family company.  I do miss my nephew from time to time.  He's at his cutest years at 3 years old.

In any case, the point of this blog entry is to point out that Italians are getting a nice voucher for traveling within their country.  The Italian government is encouraging tourism to help spur the economy by giving Italian citizens incentives to go see their country side.

I do not see any bad side to this plan.  We could all use a break since everything has been bad for the past few years.  I'm not sure how the tourism in America has been holding during this depression, but if it's like the other industries, like housing and education, then it's going bad for them.  Everybody seem to despise bailouts, except for the ones getting bailed out.  But a voucher plan like Italy's is a win-win.  It's an investment in our own tourism industry (which I think is important) and makes us (American citizens) feel good.

So it's been hot this week.  Weird that it's mid-August and summertime heat did not come until only a few days ago.  Still, I don't like it.

As I was checking out my emails the other day, thinking messed up it is for me that my A/C broke just when the summer heat was about to get going, a friend send me a picture that he came across with on Flickr.  It's a beautiful picture of a water hole in Arizona called Havasu Falls.

Now, I've been to Lake Havasu many times, but never to Havasu Falls.  I did not even know such a gorgeous thing existed.  And it's breathtaking.  Maybe I have to schedule a trip there before summer ends.

The original can be seen at Flickr.

A friend emails me this article.  She thought it was interesting since me and another gf are considering getting a boob job.  It's an article about a woman who had the surgery, except that it was so bad, that it she claimed to have ended up with four breasts.

I just don't have the money to have one now.  Otherwise, I should have had it done a couple of years ago.

I went to the Peterson car museum with my brother who is on leave from the Navy.  It was fun.  I couldn't talk him into seeing the exhibit for Frederick Evans at the Getty.  So I thought I was going to have a crappy time.  But it worked out for the best.

Actually, I'm glad I went to the car museum.  There was one setup that I thought was a page from a desktop wallpaper.  I took this picture of a Mercedes Mclaren SLR, a super expensive car that I would like to have.  Maybe someday, I'll be able to afford one.

So my friend Mindy and I were in line to see this new movie called Adam.  It stars Rose Byrne, the woman from Knowing and Damages.  This one guy began hitting on my friend and she wanted no part of it.  The guy was obnoxious.  Something didn't seem right about him.  He was acting like some hip-hop but stoner dude.  At some level, I thought it was funny.  But he was really annoying.  He pulled out a cellphone, I think it's one of those new Google phones, and took a picture of Mindy for his Myspace.  I was hoping she'd crack him on his head.  I probably should have.  Luckily, the line was short and we were inside the movie theater in no time.  Still, we were on the lookout for mr hip-hop stoner as we were walking to the parking lot.

As for the movie, I thought it was pretty good.  I'll have to review in a different post when I get a chance.

I volunteer at our local library as a librarian's aide.  I have been doing so for the past few years while in high school.  It's a good way to get some job experience since no one is hiring for pay right now.

So anyways, every Saturday, the library puts on an event in the afternoon.  More often than not it's a reading time or movie screening with just the library staff.  I even got to read short children's book a few times.

Yesterday, the library invited a group of actors who dress up as Star Wars characters.  I don't think they got paid to come because the library does not have any money to do that either.

In any case, one of them had a light sabre training with the kids.  I was helping him set up the children 8 at a time so that they don't hit each other.  He was showing them how to block, strike, and pose, or something like that.  In the middle of the whole thing, one of the kids swung his lightsabre and smacked me close to my right eye.  It stung like a mother and I had to put ice on it.  I'm ok.  It's no big deal, it happens.  Luckily the light sabre was plastic and not a real light sabre like Anakin's.  There's a scratch right below my right eye.  It'll go away.

It seems that a lot of women are shopping early for Halloween this year.  Maybe being on a Saturday has a lot to do with it.  That's all we need, a reason to give closet hoes an excuse to look like hoes.

For example, a witch costume with skirt short enough to show underwear as you bend down to grab a beer from the cooler.

If the witch is not enough for you, how 'bout one more familiar.  A purportedly sexy nurse costume that will make every heart beat.  Yeah right.

I want to get a new computer.  It'll be a laptop for sure, but since I don't have a lot of money to spend on it, I may have to get the small netbooks that I've been seeing recently.  I saw one at Starbucks and it was an Acer Netbook.  There are Dells too that I've been seeing in commercials.  The Acers seem to be cheaper.  I don't think I'll be going with the pink color.  Too girly.  I'll stick to the standard black.  The way I figure, I have about $500, more or less, for a new computer and the Acer netbook should get me a decent one that will last for at least two years.  In fact, my friend told me that I might be able to get this computer cheaper on eBay.

Here are the stats that I like:

  • Acer Aspire One D250-1990 (Diamond Black Color)
  • LU.S670B.171 (Acer Part #)
  • Atom N270 / 1.6 GHz
  • RAM 1 GB (upgradeable to 2GB)
  • HDD 160 GB
  • GMA 950 Dynamic Video Memory Technology 3.0
  • WLAN : 802.11b/g
  • Win XP Home
  • 10.1" Widescreen TFT 1024 x 600 ( WSVGA ) CrystalBrite
  • camera
  • 6-cell 6.5 hour battery
  • 2.8 pounds
  • 1 year Manufacturer's Warranty
